Sidebar - the failed escapologist of Moulton

Every so often I publish material that did not make the script of "Marsh Fen and Town" This account of a failed escapologist in Moulton, Lincolnshire is from July 1875.

A Disgusting Exhibition. —On Wednesday, Moulton. queer-looking fellow, after much parade, invited any person to tie him in a chair, by the aid of long rope, and for 1 s. he would extricate himself without help. At length the village butcher tied him by the throat, chest, legs, and arms. For nearly an hour the man writhed and struggled to be free, his distorted veins and discoloured features showing that he was near upon suffocation. Ultimately he was set free the lookers-on.
