The Victorian architect George Gilbert Scott designed over 800 buildings including St Pancras Station in London and numerous churches. Thanks to the gift of £81,000 by Miss Charinton on its outskirts Spalding has its very own George Gilbert Scott church, St Paul’s church, that was consecrated after its construction was completed in1880. In itself this is not rare as these he designed many churches, but what is somewhat rarer is the neighbouring vicarage that was also designed by George Gilbert Scott. No longer occupied by a vicar it is now privately owned.
