30. Jason Toomer

farmersfriendlincs

March 25th 2001 saw the sad loss of Jason Toomer to the area, let alone the world as he was killed in a car crash. Known affectionately to his friends as that Speccy Twat he was a great punk musician, poet and artist. Bits of his work live on like ripples in a pool after the pebble has gone.

Jas Toomer was a prolific fan zine creator – that is, in the days before internet and computers messed everything up he would photocopy brilliant little monochromatic magazines containing various touches of his genius such as how to post letters without the thieving bastards at the post office taking your money by covering stamps with a thin layer of fairy liquid. All this was alongside his music and drawings and general wit. He recorded music and cassettes and I’m sure many will still survive today in one form or another. I have a couple of his tapes.

If I had my way he would have a statue in the middle of Spalding.
