In 1962 King Hussein of Jordan was passing through Spalding and stopped to have breakfast at Dougie James’ café otherwise known as the Fenland Milk Bar.
King Hussein and Princess Muna came in for a meal on the way to Cranwell. Doug didn’t recognise them until after they had gone and a High School teacher who was in at the same time showed him their pictures in her newspaper.
The Milk Bar was closed in 1974 and eventually demolished for town housing.
